Bhongir Fort

Bhongir fort
We visited the famous Bhongir Fort on 8th June 2013 (Saturday), it is located at Bhongir or Bhuvanagiri town, Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh, India. By train we had spent less than one hour to reach the town from Hyderabad (Secunderabad Railway station). Before we climbed up to the fort we had lunch in Bhongir town. After paying entry fees at the main gate we proceeded to the top of the hill, it took around one hour to reach the top fort/hill. It was a beautiful place and nice experienced.  Wikipedia said Bhongir fort was built on an isolated monolithic rock by the Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI and was thus named after him as Tribhuvanagiri. This name gradually became Bhuvanagiri and subsequently Bhongir. At the foot of the fortified rocks 609.6 meters above the sea level stands the town of Bhongir, it has a unique egg-shaped construction with two entry points protected by huge rocks, so the fort was considered practically impregnable by invading armies.

Here are some pictures of Bhongir fort:

Unlike many other forts and tourist places in Andhra Pradesh, Bhongir fort had less visitors on the day when we went there so that we could spent more free time by ourselves and it was worth to be remembered. I suggest this fort for group or family if they want to have free place to hangout without disturbance or engage from other visitors. We were told that it is open from morning till sunset. Since there is no shops or vendors inside the fort don't forget to bring along drinking water and other edible things before you proceed to the top of the hill.
